Domenic A. Ortiz, or "Dom" as most know him, is a retired residential electrician who started volunteering at The Discovery Center in the fall of 2011. He was the recipient of the Spirit of Philanthropy Award in 2016 and is the recipient of awards for volunteerism at the Fresno Discovery Center from the Tehipite Chapter of the Sierra Club in 2014.

Dom is the Student Volunteer Coordinator overseeing service learning students from Fresno City College and Fresno State since 2015. Dom also currently coordinates Grounds and Maintenance volunteers, who all like to work with their hands.
 

While Dom became a Board Member at the Fresno Discovery Center in April 2018, he is also a current active member of IPMS/FRESNO since 1970 and also is actively volunteering with the Fresno Cactus and Succulent Society.

He is married to Elizabeth Ortiz and has two grown daughters, Rebecca and Rachel, and 7 grandchildren, so he stays quite busy!
 

The Discovery Center has 7 structures and 5 acres of property, Dom notes “We volunteers will leave the property better than we found it”.
